Frequently Asked Questions

The Answers Families Ask Most

What grade should my student be in before we start?

There is no single right time. Families with a freshman or sophomore benefit from an early strategic foundation — course selection, activity choices, and early positioning. Families with a junior or senior benefit from a more immediate, focused push on lists, essays, and deadlines. Tyson works with parents of high school students at any stage.

Is it too late to start senior year?

It depends where your student is. If applications are not submitted yet, there is still real room to improve essays, strategy, and school selection — the sooner you reach out, the more we can do.

How many schools should my student apply to?

Most students do best with a balanced list of roughly eight to twelve schools. Too few limits options; too many dilutes each application. Tyson helps find the right number for your student’s profile and goals.

How does essay support work?

It starts with brainstorming to find the right angle, then moves through multiple drafts with detailed feedback. Tyson never writes the essay for a student — the goal is writing that says what they actually mean, in their own voice.

Do you help with deferrals and waitlists?

Yes. Tyson helps students decide whether to stay on a waitlist, write a genuine letter of continued interest, and follow up in a way that reads as sincere, not desperate.

Do senior-year grades still matter?

Yes — colleges review mid-year and final transcripts, and offers can be rescinded if grades drop. Tyson helps students stay focused through the finish line.
